Description: Communication requires both a speaker and a listener, yet language is often inadequate. Words carry different meanings for different listeners. Attention drifts. Bias intervenes. We filter out what we do not want to absorb, and the message becomes distorted.
In the sculpture, the top represents the original message as it is conveyed. As it moves downward, it passes through a filter—the rock. By the time it emerges, the message has been flattened and drained of vitality, rendered bland and unattractive. What remains is not what was intended, but what survives interpretation.
